Israeli Butchery at Sea by Gilad Atzmon

Gilad Atzmon

Monday, May 31, 2010 at 11:58AM Gilad Atzmon

As I write this piece the scale of the Israeli lethal slaughter at sea is yet to be clear. However we already know that at around 4am Gaza time, hundreds of IDF commandos stormed the Free Gaza international humanitarian fleet. We learn from the Arab press that at least 16 peace activists have been murdered and more than 50 were injured.  Once again it is devastatingly obvious that Israel is not trying to hide its true nature: an inhuman murderous collective fuelled by a psychosis and driven by paranoia.

For days the Israeli government  prepared the Israeli society for the massacre at sea. It said that the Flotilla carried weapons, it had ‘terrorists’ on board. Only yesterday evening it occurred to me that this Israeli malicious media spin was there to prepare the Israeli public for a full scale Israeli deadly military operation in international waters.  Make no mistake. If I knew exactly where Israel was heading and the possible consequences, the Israeli cabinet and military elite were fully aware of it all the way along.  What happened yesterday wasn’t just a pirate terrorist  attack. It was actually murder in broad day light even though it happened in the dark.

Yesterday at 10 pm I contacted Free Gaza and shared with them everything I knew. I obviously grasped that hundreds of peace activists most of them elders, had very little chance against the Israeli killing machine. I was praying all night for our brothers and sisters.  At 5am GMT the news broke to the world. In international waters Israel raided an innocent international convoy of boats carrying cement, paper and medical aid to the besieged Gazans. The Israelis were using live ammunition murdering and injuring everything around them.

Today we will see demonstrations around the world, we will see many events mourning our dead.  We may even see some of Israel’s friends ‘posturing’ against the slaughter. Clearly this is not enough.

The massacre that took place yesterday was a premeditated Israeli operation. Israel wanted blood because it believes that its ‘power of deterrence’  expands with the more dead it leaves behind. The Israeli decision to use hundreds of commando soldiers against civilians was taken by the Israeli cabinet together with the Israeli top military commanders. What we saw yesterday wasn’t just a failure on the ground. It was actually an institutional failure of a morbid society that a long time ago lost touch with humanity.

It is no secret that Palestinians are living in a siege for years. But it is now down to the nations to move on and mount the ultimate pressure on Israel and its citizens. Since the massacre yesterday was committed by a popular army that followed instructions given by a ‘democratically elected’ government, from now on, every Israeli  should be considered as a  suspicious war criminal unless proved different.

Considering the fact that Israel stormed naval vessels sailing under Irish, Turkish and Greek flags. Both NATO  members and EU countries must immediately cease their  relationships with  Israel  and close their airspace to Israeli airplanes.

Considering yesterday’s news about Israeli nuclear submarines being stationed in the Gulf, the world must react quickly and severely.  Israel is now officially mad and deadly. The Jewish State is not just careless about human life,  as we have been following  the Israeli press campaign leading to the slaughter,  Israel actually  seeks pleasure in inflicting pain and devastation on others.

  1. This was horrific news today. And as he says, ‘The Jewish State is not just careless about human life … Israel actually seeks pleasure in inflicting pain and devastation on others.’ I believe he is right. Free Gaza, boycott Israel, this is tragic and Israel is a murderer.

  2. I think it is important that everybody keeps their cool and that the situation should first be investigated. What happenend was terrible and our thoughts should be with the families of the victims. There was of course a blockade of Gaza in the first place and the activists must have known they would not get through. The question is whether the Israelis intended violence or just to take over the ships in order to redirect them and to what extent the activists resisted with violence when they were boarded (as the Israeli government claims in their defence). These things must be investigated. Having said that in my opinion the blockade is wrong and should be lifted and Palestine should be recognized by Israel as a sovereign nation.

  3. In my opinion, while I agree with the author that this is another demonstration that ‘Israel wanted blood because it believes that its ‘power of deterrence’ expands with the more dead it leaves behind’ and all international relationships should cease immediately, there is NEVER and excuse for killing. Boarding their ships was wrong in the first place. This was cold blooded murder. And yes, in my opinion too, blockade should have been in place and should be lifted and Palestine must be recognized by Israel as a sovereign nation. In a sense I agree with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad – Israel has no right to exist (in its present state).

  4. The ships were in international waters. Boarding Turkish ships was an act of war against a Nato country.
Some people tried to defend themselves and their comrades being murdered by the commandos, unarmed tough they were.
In London 2000 many young people marched to the Israeli embassy, determined and angry, calling for closing down the embassy, and when I got back to Oxford hundreds had demonstrated here too at short notice.
But the BBC has been atrocious.
End the siege of Gaza now!
The Palestinians need all the solidarity they can get. Some ignorant people have asked where is the Palestinian Ghandi – I have met many and some have been killed by the Israelis.

  5. Thank you David for the information. BBC haven’t been helpful. And you are right. A Palestinian Ghandi wouldn’t help free Gaza And that guy is right. And where is Nick Clegg now. Will any government do what is right?

  6. Israel proved long ago it can attack even US warships in international waters and Congress will turn a blind eye rather than investigate (recall the USS Liberty). Murdering a few more peace activists will mean nothing to the only government that counts.

The only chance the Palestinians have is that people like us organize and support international solidarity movements or any local group working with them. Moratoriums and peace activist movements can cause targeted costly disruptions. Powers will only change when they find the costs going against them. But it takes some courage and commitment.

It’s good to find a common bond with Jim and Steph on a matter that is of real importance.

  7. Yes. Happy birthday Neil. And I will do as you suggest. I was a member of the Green Party at home and got involved in things through that but I haven’t linked in with anything since I’ve been in the UK. I will rectify that. And thank you for those links. I hadn’t seen that site before and I’ve saved it now.

  8. If I were to say something like both sides are racists and whichever side gets a little power over the other will behave exactly in this fashion and try to wipe out the other, I’m sure most of the commenters would be outraged. So I’m not going to say that. Why would I need to when the article above proves it? Gilad Atzmon says “from now on, every Israeli should be considered as a suspicious war criminal unless proved different.” In other words, the Palestinian solution to Israel’s racism is racism in the other direction. This butchery will never end so long as both sides continue to think in the same barbaric race-centric terms. That Lowkey guy doesn’t inspire me with much confidence that either side can rise above this barbaric thinking. His “Long live Palestine” chant doesn’t sound like a genuine protest against human rights abuses. It sounds like a racist we’re going to pay you back type of thing. Quite frankly I’m tired of both sides and how they take the whole world hostage. No nation should give any sort of aid to either side from now on. Let both sides go bankrupt to the point where they can’t afford guns anymore, put embargoes of all sorts on both of them, and maybe it will finally end.
